Tips for writing summaries people read

  • • Put decisions before discussion. Readers want the outcome, not the journey.
  • • Always assign an owner to every action item — "we should" tasks never get done.
  • • Keep the summary under 200 words. Anything longer gets skimmed or skipped.
  • • Send within 24 hours. After that, momentum is gone.
